Concept for “the ultrasound of therapy”
“the ultrasound of therapy” concept was made for an ancient French hospital, built during the Middle Age and called “Hospice Comtesse”, a part of which being known as “La Salle des Malades”. But the first version will be in Lubliana from 27. - 30. October. It will be an installation consisting of several individual sound therapies.
These will be made by us, but we have invited others too , Simon Wickham-Smith,Lynn Pook and the filmer Ulrich Miller.
here are some examples of out thoughts
We want this concept to develop over the years and expand it with other contribution and adjust existing therapies based on the experience we make over time.
The therapy will start with an ‘intake’. Here a nurse will enter all relevant data in to a database (card system), including name, address, date of birth, photo, relevant diseases etc. Then the patient will be placed in/ore strapped on to on a hospital bed. Rolled to his location in the room but visually isolated by a hospital screen. The screen will make it impossible for others to see what is happening to the patient and the patient can not see what is happening to the others, just hear their sounds. Each ‘bed’ will be a individually sound therapy shaped to the patient diagnosed made from the intake data. The sound therapy will vary in time and treatment, while each patient is different he will be individually treated and instructed therefore behave differently. Some will be relaxing, others energising ore even disturbing. Sound medicine and treatments that may be used include;
-’medical sounds’ these can be organic sounds taken from the body of the patient, like heartbeat, longs etc. And “dead electronic beeping and piping sounds” from intensive care medical machines and medical records.
-’traditional sound therapy’ like Tibetan sound massage bowls that are placed on the body, chanting etc.
-’physical and visual sounds’ like very low frequencies, physical sensations, inflatable object and vibrating machines, temperature and light. As a example of a individual sound therapy: one person can treated with surround sounds taken from a womb on a water bed, wrapped in a warm inflatable blanked, with red light. We can use speakers that make you hear the sound “in” your body. Separate from the individual sound, an overall sound will be created for the whole space, unifying it into one sound installation. This sound will be transmitted to radios mounted in the space and on the beds. We will work with different frequencies and moving the sound over the frequencies. Some radios will be placed on model trains so that sounds will be permanently moving and rotating, creating an architectural sound. We will work with light, using old TV sets that will be switched on and of by light organs controlled by the overall sound.
